Chapter 7

Sam and I got food and sat down at a table. We were eating when Jason and Regina sat down at the table next to us. Jason smiled t me. I smiled back, a fake smile all the same. Sam saw them and got up. “I’m done. You?” he asked. I nodded and we headed to the arcade.
“Jeez why does he have to follow us around?” I said, annoyed a t Jason.
Sam didn’t reply.

We finally went for Laser Tag. We had lots of fun. I completely owned Sam! But, I’ve had experience. I have 3 older brothers, and Sam only has an older sister.

After playing some games, we headed to the parking lot. This time, I drove back home. Green Day was still going on. It was Maria. Sam said, “Alex, it certainly is exciting to meet you here at the recording studio right after you just made your very first record. How does it feel?”
I laughed and replied “WANDAFUL!”

She smashed the radio with the board of education
Turn up the static left of the state of the nation

Turn up the flame, step on the gas
Burning the flag at half mast
She's a rebel's forgotten son
An export of the revolution

She is the first voice of the last ones in the line
She'll drag the lake to keep the vendetta alive

Bring in the head of the government
The dog ate the document
Somebody shot the President
And no one knows where Maria went?

Maria, Maria, Maria,
Where did you go?

Be careful what you're offering
Your breath lacks the conviction
Drawing the line in the dirt
Because the last decision
....is no.

I dropped Sam off at his house and drove to my house. I parked the car in the garage and headed to my room. My mom came into my room.
“Young lady, I expect to be told if you ever go somewhere after school.” She said with her hands crossed.
“I was with Sam, mom. We went to play Laser Tag and we went shopping.” I shrugged.
When she heard ‘Sam’ she relaxed. She thought Sam could keep my feet to the ground. If I ever told her that some guy, other than Sam, is stalking me (yes, Sam used to stalk me before we became friends) she will die. Literally.

As soon as she left, my phone rang. It was Sam.

Sam: Hey. I was thinking…
Me: yeah?
Sam: something about Jason…
Me: What Sam?
Sam: Maybe we should give him a chance…

I stared at Sam’s message. Was this Sam? The same guy whose face was red with anger at the sight of Jason?

Chapter 6

The mall was huge. There were four floors and over a 100 stores. Sam and I decided to roam around at first, eat and then play games. We walked around, cracking the lamest jokes and poking each other in the stomach.

Just then, I saw the Converse store. It was on sale! ‘Hey Alex, Converse is on sale.” Sam told me, pointing towards the store. Then he looked at me to see my reaction and groaned when he saw the glint in my eye, “oh no now we gotta go there! Me and my big fat mouth!”
I laughed and pulled him along with me. I bought a wicked pair of converse, black with white checks. Sam bought a new jacket and some t-shirts.

We window shopped for a while and walked into Vero Moda. I was trying on some clothes when I heard a familiar voice from the next changing room. It was Regina. I groaned and changed into my clothes quickly. When I got out, Sam asked “liked anything?” I nodded and told him the Regina was there. We both looked around and saw an escalator going up to Jack n’ Jones.
Suddenly, I asked Sam, “Why are we running?”
He looked at me and we cracked up.

We were still laughing when we got off the escalator. “Well, now that we’re here, you’d better find some clothes for yourself too.” I said as I started going through a rack of t-shirts. I found one that said ‘Do I Look Like I Care?’ and figured Sam would like this. I got it out. “What do you think?” and then I looked at his face. It was red with anger.
“Sam? What’s wrong?” but he didn’t reply. He just kept staring past my shoulder. I turned around and saw… Jason

I grabbed Sam and we walked out of the store. “Is he stalking you?” Sam asked me. I shrugged. “It’s not like I care.” And then I heard Jason call my name. I stopped, whirled around and acted surprised. “Jason, fancy seeing you here!” I told him.
“Yeah, after we told you we were coming here.” Sam muttered. I jabbed him with my elbow. “Ow!”
“Well, I came here with Regina.” Jason told us.
“Cool. Anyway, we gotta go. We’re hungry.” I told him. I wanted to get out of there, fast!
“We were on our way to the food court too. Why don’t we all go together?” he asked with a smile.
I saw Regina coming towards us, fuming.
“Er… no I don’t think that’s a good idea. Well, we’ll be off now. Enjoy!” I said and Sam and I walked away

Chapter 5

The ride to the mall was really silent. No one spoke. The only sound was coing from the stereo, which was playing Green Day. Sam refused to open his mouth, and kept fuming about something. For a while, I tried to get him to talk but he just wouldn’t. I had given up and was humming along with the songs. The song going on was American Idiot. Sam was being the American Idiot.

Finally, I turned to him. “What the hell is wrong with you?” He didn’t reply, well duh, so I threatened him. “If you don’t tell m what is bothering you so much, I will slap you so hard you will fall out of the car.” He looked at me, a little amused, half-expecting me to be joking. But when he saw the look on my face, he realized that I wasn’t joking. “What is your problem?” I asked him
“Jason. Jason Grace is my problem.” He said, finally.
I was puzzled. “What? Why? He’s just joined school.”
“Yeah, and he’s already in love with you.” He said and looked at the road.
“What??” I spat out the water I was drinking. “What nonsense.”
“I’ve seen the way he looks at you Alex.” He continued.
“Sam, why is that bothering you so much?”
“I don’t know. It just is.”

Sam pulled into the parking lot. He parked the car and we got off. I dragged him to the side and slapped him. “Wake up! I don’t care about Jason Grace! And sorry about the slap.”
“Thanks. I needed it.” He said.
I hugged him. “Chill sam. You’re my best friend. I’d tell you if I ever felt anything about anyone.”
“Thanks Alex.”
I put my arm through his. “Now come on. Paintba- no Laser Tag- no, yes, no wait, umm I don’t know… Yeah! The games arcade is waiting for us!”
He laughed. I grinned and we both walked into the mall.

Chapter 4

We walked into the cafeteria and got some food. I got a pizza and Sam got a burger. We went to our usual table and said ‘Tuck In!’ to each other, which had now become a sort-of ritual since we both did that in 9th grade.
We were eating, minding our own business when Mr. Attitude and Queen Plastic walked to our table.
“Look who’s here.” I muttered and turned to them. “What brings Your Highness to the dining area of a lowly servant like me?” I flashed a bright smile.

“Jason wanted to talk to you, not me.” Regina said the same way she would have said I look ugly.
I turned to Jason. ‘Oh really? What now? Another apology?” I asked.
He looked at me and then laughed. “Ookay… weirdo.’ I told Sam. He snickered.
“I just wanted to ask if you wanna be friends.” He said, and he looked hurt.
“Not with that on your arm.” I raised my eyebrows as I looked at Regina.
Regina gave me a death-look, which I was way better at by the way, and said with a stern voice. “Jason doesn’t need you.”
“Well then, I’m busy.” I told Regina, motioning towards my pizza. I looked at Jason. “Later.” And began eating again.

Math and Science lecture were the same. The teachers kept yapping and I zoned out again. I took the notes from Sam and we walked to the school parking lot after school.

“Drop you home?” I asked him.
“Nah. I wanna go out. I thought we could maybe go bowling?” He said.
I grinned. “I know something better. Paintball.”
“No no not that! I always get color on my clothes and then my mom screams at me. Laser Tag.” He said
“Paintball”
“Laser Tag”
“Paintball!”
“LASER TAG!”
“I vote for Paintball.” Came a voice from behind us.
“No one asked you Jason.” Sam told him. He grabbed the keys from me. “I’m driving. And we’re leaving. Now.” He glowered at me.
“Jeez, calm down.” I said as I climbed into the passenger seat.

Jason came at the window. “Hey, I wanna apologize,” he started.
“There he goes again.” I muttered and Sam gave me a half- smile.
“I really want to be friends with you. I don’t like Regina. She’s the one who sticks to me.” Jason continued.
I shrugged as Sam fired up the engine. “I don’t mind more friends.” I said as waved goodbye. Good Riddance too.

Chapter 3

I walked into class and sat down at my desk. The Queen Plastic, Regina Prescott, walked up to me. “Hey freak. I saw that delicious guy talking to you in the hallway. What did he say?” She asked me, licking her lips. Eew, gross.
“Why do you care, Reggie?” I replied, not looking up.
“Stop calling me that and just tell me what he said.” She snapped
“His teeth are brighter than he is.” I replied with a grin.
She made a face at me. I stuck my tongue out at her. Just then, our biology teacher, Ms. Ferrero, told Regina to move back to her seat. “Buh-bye Reg.” I said and got my iPod out.

Ms. Ferrero was going on about raniceps raninus and rana hexadactyla. I nkew this, so I put my hood up to hide my iPod headphones. I played on Paramore. This band was growing on me. Curse Sam!

I can't make my own decisions
Or make any with precision
Well maybe you should tie me up
So i don't go where you don't want me
You say that i've been changing
That i'm not just simply Ageing
Well how could that be logical?
Just keep on craming ideas down my throat
Woah

You don't have to believe me
But the way I, way I see it
Next time you point a finger i might have to bend it back
And break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger i'll point you to the mirror

If Gods the game that you're playing
Well we must get more aquainted
Because it has to be so lonely to be the only one who's holy
It's just my humble opinion but it's one that i believe in
You don't deserve a point of view
If the only thing you see is you
Woah

You don't have to believe me
But the way i, way i see it

Next time you point a finger i might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger i'll point you to the mirror

This is the last second chance
(I'll point you to the mirror)
I'm half as good as it gets
(I'll point you to the mirror)
I'm on both sides of the fence
(I'll point you to the mirror)
Without a hint of regret i'll hold you to it

I know you don't believe me
But the way i, way i see it
Next time you point a finger i might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger i'll point you to the mirror

I know you won't believe me
But the way i, way i see it
Next time you point a finger i might have to bend it back
Or break it, break it off
Next time you point a finger i'll point you to the mirror.

(Playing God, if you didn’t know)

Aah, amazing song. The bell rang and Sam shook my shoulder. “Get out of your dream world, princess. Recess. If you’re not hungry, I am.” He told me.
“Oh go away Sam. I don’t feel like getting up. Stupid Reggie might come to me again. Or even Mr. Attitude.” I told him.
“Oooh Alex is scared!” He said, with mock shock.
“I am not!” I punched him the stomach lightly.
He laughed. “Okay then, get up!” I shook my head. He pulled me up, removed the headphones, and took me to the Cafeteria.

Chapter 2

Our homeroom teacher, Mr. Wayner, came in, dumped his books on a chair and said “Yo guys! How was your weekend?”
Yes, I know homeroom teachers are not supposed to be like that, they need to be strict, horribly dressed old people. But Mr. Wayner was not like that. He was really young, wore the latest clothes, rode a Harley and insisted that we call him ‘W-Dawg’… Oh yeah, he also never taught us anything in class, we just told horror stories.

Anyway, we all replied in the usual way we wish our teachers. “Yo Dawg!”
“No, no, no! Why the symphony? Where’s the rock band man? Why you whining?” he said, shaking his head.
We all laughed and settled down after a while. Mr. Wayner sat down behind his desk and cleared his voice. He opened his mouth and out came the best imitation of our principal anyone had ever heard.
“Class, we have a new student with us today.” He said and everybody turned to look at the new guy. It was Mr. Attitude. He got up and walked to the front of the class.

“Hi. I’m Jason. Jason Grace. I just moved to New York a week ago, from Miami.” He told as he looked around the class.
“Thank you Jason, now, please go back to your seat.” nodded Mr. Wayner.
Jason walked back and as he passed me, he winked at me. I turned around and looked at Sam. “He’s lobbering at ya.” He grinned.
(Lobbering is a word that means winking. Sam and I made up some words and claimed them to be Shakespearean words when we were in 7th grade. )

I made a face at him and got up as the bell rang. I waited for Sam at the door and we both walked to my locker (his is right next to mine). As I was walking, Jason came in front of me. “You’re Alex, right?” he asked me.
“Oh, so the table told you my name, did it?” I said and walked past him. He caught my hand. “Leave-My-Hand!” I said, still not looking at him. H refused to let go of it.
“Hear me out first.” He said.
I looked at Sam. He nodded.
“Fine. I’ll listen, but you have to leave my hand.” I told him. He nodded and dropped my hand. Man his grip was tight! I turned to face him. “Get over with it. I have a class.” I told him. He said:
“Look, I was a jerk in the morning, (Well, hello!) and I’m sorry. (Like that’ll help) I didn’t want to start my year out like that, (no kidding!) and I want us to be friends. (Is that an order?)”

I took a sip of water and looked over at Sam, trying to control my laughter.
“Why do you keep looking at him? Is he your boyfriend?” Jason asked me.
I nearly spat out the water in my mouth. I gulped the water and said, “No, but we know each other since 3rd grade, we’re best friends, and we’re outta here.” I told him and grabbed Sam’s hand. “Let’s go to class.” I told him. “After you, milady.” He grinned.

Chapter 1

I walked to my locker and opened the lock. Sam was having trouble remembering his locker code, again.
“Its 2345 Sam.” I sighed.
He could never remember it. He grinned at me and opened his locker.
“What would you do without me?” I asked him with a smile.
“Don’t flatter yourself, Alexandra.” He replied without looking at me.
I smacked him on the head. “You know I hate being called that.”
“Yes, okay, I’m sorry.” He said as he ducked to avoid my hand.

We both got our books and walked to our homeroom. The class was as I remembered it… The plastics in one corner, jocks in the other, the nerds huddled together at the front and some of my friends lounging at the back. I smiled and went to my usual seat, but there was a guy sitting there. He wore a white polo shirt, blue jeans and was listening to songs on his Ipod. He removed one earphone when he saw me coming towards him.
“Umm, yeah?” he asked me.
“That’s my seat.” I said flatly, pointing to where he was sitting.
“Does it have your name on it?” he said with a hint of sarcasm.
I didn’t know what to say. I just looked at him.
“Well? Does it or does it not?” he asked, a little impatiently.
Sam came and steered me to another seat.

I just sat there blankly. No one had ever spoken to me like that, I was the risk-taker, the dangerous girl, the one people like him avoided. Sam looked over at me and saw my shocked face.
‘Alex, what’s wrong girl?” he said. “Scared of Mr.Attitude?” he punched my shoulder lightly.
“In your dreams, Samuel. I’m just a little shocked. No one ever speaks to me lik that.” I told him. Then my anger grew. “Oh he’s gonna regret it.”
“Now, I’m scared.” Sam said. “Who is he, anyway?”
And That’s exactly what I wanted to know.

Introduction

I woke up to the sound of Bring me To Life by Evanescence. I looked around my room. It was a loft, which means my bed was under a platform sorta thing. On the platform was my study table and wardrobe. My room is black and white and has skull decals on the walls. I have a black cat which stays in my room too.

I got out of bed, pushed it under the loft and climbed onto the platform to get dressed. I pulled on a sweater I got when I attended an Avenged Sevenfold concert and jeans. I wore my black skull converse and headed down. I grabbed a sandwich and walked out of the house.

I got my car out of the garage and drove to my best friend, Sam’s place. He was waiting on the porch for me. “Hey Alex. You’re late today.” He told me as he got into the other seat. “Oh be grateful I actually give you a lift.” I told him. He shrugged and began looking for a good song. He grinned as the car was filled with Paramore. “You still in love with Hayley Williams?” I asked him, raising one eyebrow. He just smiled. I shook my head and hummed along with the song. “I gotta admit, they do have good music.” I told him.

We pulled up in the school parking lot. I got my Ipod out and he got his Itouch out. The school bell rang and I followed Sam in for another dreadful school day.
